Here is a very rare 1970 Pontiac Trans Am with Ram Air IV intake. Most of the early ’70’s Trans Ams had Ram Air III intakes. Specialty Sales Classics in Fairfield, California offers it for sale this week. They tell us it is one of only 88 Ram Air IV examples built in 1970. Of those, only 59 were 4-speed cars. Furthermore, of the 59 4-speeds, only six were known to have come from the factory with this Lucerne Blue paint. Of course, a detailed restoration put this car back to factory specs. You have to view this short walk-around video to see it and hear it run. The 400 ci Ram Air IV was conservatively rated at 370 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Using bigger ports, new heads with redesigned combustion chambers, swirl polished valves, and an aluminum intake manifold, it is a formidable performer. The Ram Air IV Trans Am with its second-year F-body build was a better handling car than the Corvette.
